Brian Callaghan RHI, CBCO, President & Senior inspector of Alert Inspection Services Ltd., has been in the inspection profession since 1990 in Canada's National Capital region of Ottawa, Ontario.

Brian was born and grew up on the red sandy soil not 15 feet from a lighthouse on Prince Edward Island (the place where Anne of Green Gables is from). As a teen on the Island he built a number of houses and worked driving a lumber truck for a local mill. The town he grew up in was Charlottetown is the birthplace of Confederation. The lifestyle on the island was very friendly and you knew who your neighbor was. In the 1970’s it was time to move to the big city, so off to Halifax for 3 years at technical college (architectural), then on to Ottawa, Ontario he went. He met a wonderful French gal, got married and has 3 great kids.

Brian has worked in the inspection business since 1982. He began his working career in Ottawa as a tar and gravel roofer, but after one winter of working outside in minus 40 degrees weather, it was time for a change. He then went to work as senior roofing inspector for a consultant firm charged with the inspection of commercial roofing projects (better and warmer job) and after 4 years of being chased by some big and not so happy roofers, he moved into Municipal Code Compliance inspection as a senior building inspector and Chief Building Official for a number of area municipalities, supervising residential inspectors and inspecting multi-million dollar commercial projects.

The 1990’s arrived and it was time again for a change, so with a background and experience as a roofing and code inspector, professional home inspection was the place to be and in a moment of insanity decided to hang out my shingle.

Residential Mechanical Ventilation Certified (HRAI)
Expert Witness for the Ontario Provincial Court
